CHUPACABRA
VAMPIRES (Anomalous Biological Entities)

There is a mysterious animal on the rampage ravaging the countryside.
There have been few witnesses, but the aftermath is always the same. Animals
are left dead with strange puncture holes and every drop of blood is gone,
as if they had been attacked by a vampire. A sighting of thirty citizens
of Canavanas, Puerto Rico, reported watching a creature walk down the
street, it was said to be leaping from the trees and swooping from the
sky. Now this is wild, it reminds of the Bernie Casey movie I saw called
Gargoyles or something like those flying monkeys in the Wizard
of Oz.
Chupacabra (pronounced
chew-paw-kahb-rah) means "goat sucker" in Spanish, or if you prefer the
official term for such an unclassified creature: Anomalous Biological
Entity (ABE). Thousands of animals have fallen prey to these deadly predators.
They have been seen all over the Americas, the highest concentration being
Puerto Rico, where some believe they originated. To most people, the Chupacabra
stories are a recent phenomenon.
The first known report was in 1954, when a strange creature resembling
the description of a Chupacabra was spotted in Venezuela. Descriptions
of the Chupacabra have varied but people consistently described them as
three to four feet tall, standing on powerful hind legs similar to a goat
or kangaroo and with reptilian or dinosaur-like features. The feet have
been described as three-toed with prints left behind looking like those
of a chicken, but larger, with claws. Its face is reported to look similar
to a Baboon, its eyes big and red in color. It has been said that there
are extrusions coming out of its head and going down the center of its
back. It has also been said that they have wings. Its back looks ribbed,
similar to that of an iguana which is said to be its folded wings. It
also has fangs and a snake type tongue, the skin is grey and is hairy
in parts of the body and the creature has a tail. The animal is said to
have a loud, ominous hiss which was heard when some dogs temporarily trapped
one.
Mayor Jose Soto of Canavanas, Puerto Rico, has lead search parties of
vigilantes to hunt these modern-day vampires. In Veracruz, Mexico, people
have protested in front of government offices to demand that officials
take action against these beasts. Strangely enough, not one has been killed
or caught. These creatures have left a wake of animal deaths from domestic
house pets to small farm animals. The list includes cats, dogs, goats,
sheep, chickens, rabbits, ducks, and geese. Citizens are worried that
their children might be next. The victimized animals are found with one
to three perfect puncture wounds in their necks from five to ten millimeters
in diameter. There have been a number of animals slain in Miami. "People
are hysterical," said a Miami police department spokesperson.
There seems to be a concerted effort by officials to deny the possibility
of this new creature's existence. Local, state and federal officials are
eager to debunk the accounts of the Chupacabras by citing scientists and
experts stating that the attacks are the work of common predators such
as coyotes, pumas, baboons, stray dogs, or exotic animals illegally introduced
into the environment. They even go so far as to claim it stems from satanic
cults. Many Spanish speaking TV shows have done specials on the Chupacabras,
but nothing has been picked up by American national programmers.
Here are just a few stories of incidents:
Puerto Rico: Torrecilla - In the early morning hours a woman heard strange
noises in her house and dog barking. A Siamese cat was found dead with
its genitals removed two guinea hens with their throats slit, a chicken,
four ducks and four rabbits found dead in their cages. San German - 11
goats found dead. Orocovis - Eight sheep found dead. The animals each
had three strange marks or puncture holes in the chest and were described
as "completely drained of blood". Naguabo - on the east coast several
caged rabbits were "found dead with holes in the neck area, without a
drop of blood." Other rabbits had disappeared, and near the rabbit cage
was an animal track with a three-toed claw.
Mexico: Calderon Village, Sinaloa - A giant bat-like creature terrorized
a village. Goats were found daily with their blood sucked dry, witnesses
said. Farmers formed night vigilante squads. "We are telling people to
keep the women and children locked up inside at night," a villager said,
"Nobody knows really what it is." Dozens of goats had fallen victim to
the bloodsucker. It allegedly attacked one human. May 9, 1996, 2:00 AM,
Espinoza Family - The front door was opened and a creature was seen three
to four foot high with scaly skin, clawed hands, red eyes, and a row of
spines from the skullcap and down the back. The creature "mumbled and
gestured." At 5:30 AM, a seven year-old boy in the same house said the
creature stood on his bed and briefly on his chest. Both the older and
younger Espinoza family members described a smell "like a wet dog."
Rumor has it that officials from the Puerto Rico government had captured
a live Chupacabra in the town of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, and allegedly
brought it to the United States. To date publicly, no culprit has been
caught. There are more witnesses and evidence for Chupacabras than there
are for sightings of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster combined. Their
malevolent nature points out the importance of resolving and or eradicating
this problem. These creatures are leaving many questions left unanswered.
